Cats rule social media. Not a day goes by when I don’t see a cat video or meme on my Facebook or Twitter feed. As an owner of a Russian Blue named Waldo, I can totally relate to those viral posts. These feline friends are funny, but they could also be pretty unpredictable too. I have so many stories about my pet that I’m sure my fellow cat owners can relate to.

When you have a cat, you’re going to realize sooner or later that you’re not really the boss. Sometimes a cat would ignore you the whole time and then wake you up in the middle of the night just to ask for water or treats. (The best of them have the power to open doors.) And when they don’t like the treats in their bowl, they’re going to keep nagging until you give them their favorite. There are also times when they’d choose to vocalize at 3 AM and then hide in corners to take little naps for the rest of the day. I know it sounds difficult, but there’s a bright side too. Now I understand the assumption that cat lovers are usually the patient types.
Even if cats are demanding creatures, they are loyal. They choose their humans and depend on them for their food and water. These chosen humans are the ones they sit on and playfully scratch when they’re feeling affectionate. At the end of a long day, they’re the ones their pets wait for at the door or by the window. It feels good to be marked as a cat’s human.

Hi, Peter Medlyn here. I’m also known as Waldo the cat’s favorite human. I own a pizza restaurant in Rockridge, Oakland, California. Let’s be friends on Twitter.
